Happy October!


I don't know about the rest of you, but October on this site almost feels like the start of a new year! The site's birthday celebration festivities are wrapping up and one of a writer's favorite times of year is coming up - Halloween!

There's a reason the Horror genre is so popular in today's fiction. It's fascinating to write/read about the things that scare us. I think that for many of us, we crave the primal feelings that come with feeling scared, or maybe it reminds of us our childhoods, getting scared of the boogeyman or monsters under the bed...

Or maybe it's because writers are natural "pretenders." We can easily get into the heads of our characters, to see the world through their eyes. It would make sense that dressing up and pretending to be someone else for a day would be enticing, wouldn't it?

Plus, there's candy! *Laugh*

Regardless, October is an exciting time on Writing.Com for many of us! Don your scariest Costumicon, write some horror, and take part in all the October events on WDC! Look below for spooky festivities, and also don't forget that NaNoWriMo is getting near, too! (That brings its own world of fear, believe me!) *Laugh*

My favourite part of the birthday celebrations is how happy everyone is. We're all dashing here and there, but everything is fun and light hearted. I love it. Such a fun time to be part of this site. *Smile*
