Letter from the editor

I'm writing this newsletter from inside a Starbucks in Fort Bragg, California. It's the only place I could find with decent WiFi (the RV park where we've been camping says they have free WiFi, but you practically have to be sitting on their laps to tap into it).

Since October 17 (today is October 27) my husband and I have been on vacation for our 25th anniversary, which was actually back in June. We never really had a particular destination in mind, but have been flying by the seats of our pants and stopping whenever something strikes our fancy.

We've seen lots of beautiful things (the Avenue of the Giants, the Trees of Mystery, the Pacific ocean), and reconnecting with nature has always rejuvinated my spirit, but the thing that's renewed my soul on this particular vacation is how kind everyone has been. From Idaho to Oregon to California, everyone we've come into contact with has gone out of their way to be nice to us. People smile and ask us how we're doing as they walk past, they stop and offer help if we're pulled over on the side of the road, they recommend their favorite restaurants, hiking trails, and ocean views. They invite us to join them at their beach campfires, give impromptu boogie board lessons, and chat about anything and everything like long lost friends.

It's the people who have made this such a beautiful vacatiion and goes to show that one small act of kindness, a genuine heart-felt smile, a friendly word can have a huge impact on someone's day. It also proved what I've believed to be true all along: people are inherently good at heart.

Thank you to everyone who made this vacation such a wonderful one, and perhaps I can pay it forward by showing the next stranger who comes my way the same kindness and generosity you bestowed upon me. Sounds like an admirable spiritual practice to me, and one well worth pursuing.

Thank you for reading.

A swirly signature I made using the Mutlu font and a drop shadow.

Ask & Answer

The following is in response to "Angelic Introductions:

Cynaemon writes, "Very interesting article. I see you have left out one of the most important angels, Lucifer. Whether you like him or not, he is the Lord Of Light. My personal angel's name is Nathan. How do I know that? He told me so." Leaving Lucifer out of the newsletter was intentional. I listed guardian angels and helping angels--angels to call on when you need assistance with something. Lucifer, in my opinion, doesn't fall into either category. Thank you for reading and commenting, Cynaemon. Have a great week! *Peace*

Jaeff | KBtW of the Free Folk writes, "I have to admit that I've never really been too fascinated with angels. I know some people are seriously into them, but when it comes to the topic of spirituality, I've always been more focused on God than on the other scriptural figures. And as merely a supernatural topic, i guess I find myself drawn to darker creatures like vampires and demons. I suppose one of these days I should probably look at the more heavenly creatures at some point." *Smile* I'm with you, Jeff. I've never really been super intrigued by them either, but I have learned a lot about them recently, and they're more interesting than I thought they'd be. I find demon possession, exorcism, poltergeists, and hauntings much more fascinating. In fact, I just watched The Conjuring and was swept away by the idea of it all. Lorraine Warren has led an interesting real life, and this movie is based on just one of her stories. I'm not sure how much of it I believe, but it's captivating nonetheless. I suppose at some point I should write a newsletter about the dark side, just to be fair, huh? *Bigsmile*
