About This Newsletter

Coming up with new story ideas is important to any writer. Many writers have no shortage of ideas for stories, their problem is having too many ideas. If you're like me, you probably have notebooks or computer files swarming with ideas. Good writing is hard work, especially if you want it to be readable.

Letter from the editor

As with any story you must develop your plot. This can be done in different ways, it really depends on the kind of writer you are. However, one of the key elements to this is to get your ideas written down. Figure out what is going to happen in your novel and what the driving plot will be. For some authors this can mean writing down everything to the smallest detail, or just getting the general picture of what they want to happen.

Here are some questions to consider:

1. Is this a story you can write? Do you have the experience, insight, understanding, and voice necessary to address this story to your audience? If not, can you acquire those skills?

2. What are your qualifications? Do you possess the skills to write authoritatively about the subject, background, or time period you’ve chosen?

3. What drawbacks will you face in writing this story? Where can you find the additional resources and information you need to make your story believable?

Think long and hard about your romance. Make it sappy in some parts, but not too much. You want there to be a definite vibe of romance, but not so much it feels cheesy. The important thing to think about here is to make it real. Remember who you are writing for. If you are writing for yourself, feel free to write what ever you want. Don't be afraid to let your plot change. As you may have heard before, characters almost take on minds of their own when you are writing. The first and most basic truth about writing is that a writer should write the story that he/she wants to write. If your plot goes in a completely different direction, just go with it and see where it takes you.
