The purpose of this newsletter is to highlight some of the current contests and activities on the site, help educate members on how to host contests and activities, and provide clues to submit quality entries to contests. Write to me if you'd like something in particular covered.

Templates
When running a contest or activity where the participants seem happy to join in and you don't get a lot of questions about rules and how to post, you've probably created a good template for your next contest. So when you think about creating a new contest, you have a successful template on which to base your new project.
When getting ready to start a new contest, look at what makes other ones successful. Is it the nice layout? Are the rules simple? Is the contest unique but easy to understand? While it would be wrong to copy another person's work, it doesn't hurt to look at what makes theirs successful and try to set yours up in a similar way. I've had people ask to copy my idea and set up a similar contest and I was more than willing to share with permission, so others can enjoy some fun. I certainly didn't want them to do an exact copy, but use the general set up and idea for their own endeavor.
I love seeing contests based on a game or perhaps a tv show so everyone already has an idea how it works. Also, it never hurts to revise your contest a bit after the first run, to clarify things or adjust length of contest or number of winners to work better the next time. If you care enough about your project to fine tune it and listen to suggestions from others, it could end up being a favorite of your participants who will come back time after time.
So, not only look to do the best you can when creating your project, but also be brave enough to admit the parts that weren't so successful and improve for the next round.

Excerpt: NEW PROMPT: In honor of a new judge joining us write something to please them, either in the horror or fantasy genre's or both if you wish. The prompt is wide open as long as you use one or both of the genres.
Excerpt: This contest challenges you to write and review at least once a week for the three freshest months of the year. During March, April, and May, you are asked to enter at least one erotica or romance contest per week. You must also review the fellow writer who posted his/her story in this forum right before you.
The contest spans 13 weeks. Win the exclusive "Romantic Season" merit badge for completing 12 weeks.
A minimum of three of those weeks have to be entries into monthly contests.
*SPECIAL* Contest hosts who keep their contest open and judge all the rounds in a timely fashion will also receive this merit badge.
