About This Newsletter

I burned out my drawing hand by using it too much. The common word for it is writer's cramp. The fancy words for it are focal dystonia. The symptom in my case was a pinky finger that went spastic when I tried to draw.
~ Scott Adams

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.

Letter from the editor

There are two main things to consider when getting a membership on the site - how much space do you actually need and what type of items you're most likely to use. With that said, how often do you write?

I'm a very sporadic writer. I only put pen to paper or fingertips onto a keypad when a story really hits me or I decide to participate in a contest. It's rare that my writing would be considered a day after day thing. It's just impossible for me. There are many who do write regularly and I applaud to those who manage to do it. Quite a task!

I couldn't write anywhere other than on a piece of paper or the site itself. My inspiration runs off and hides from that blank page. The links on WdC make it more welcoming. It tells me that someone else managed to write something, I can do the same thing.

At first, I couldn't wait to add a new story to my portfolio! Then, when more stories were added, I created folders to organize them better - short stories, poetry, activities, etc. However, I don't write often enough so I can spare an item space or two for folders. For those of you who add stories/poetry on a regular basis, setting up a book item is the best thing, if you're worried about limited portfolio space. In order to create a book item, you'd have to have an Upgraded Membership. For more info, please visit: "Free and Paid Membership Benefits

Just click on Create a New Item on the upper left corner indicated with the big green plus sign. From there, choose Book. You can look up more info through here "Create/Edit a Book. The most important thing to pay attention to would be the following part when setting up your book item:

Section 6: Item Type Specific Settings

Book Entry Format: To be honest, the selection of a format that works best for you may require some experimentation. Clicking on the -?- to the right of the selection window will provide more information on the available Book Item Entry Formats. Select a format that you believe looks good, and then save it and see how it looks. You may have to put an entry or two in the book before knowing if this format will work for you.

Blog Commenting: Only available to items set as Journal/Blogs, this setting provides you with the option of allowing people to comment to your individual entries or not. If the blog is set up in the "My Blog" section (through the account page), however, it cannot be set to refuse comments.

If you want your book item to be specifically for stories/poems, you'd have to choose something other than the Blog Format.

Hope you found this information somewhat helpful. *Bigsmile* If you're still unsure how to set it up, feel free to ask around. Many people use this particular item for that exact purpose.

'til next time!
