Letter from the editor

When it comes to contests and activities, time is of the essence. Not everything circulates on a regular weekly, biweekly, or even a monthly basis. New things come up all the time! Hosts tend to get bored with running the same thing all the time so they switch things up or try to go back and forth between things.

You have hosts who run contests on a monthly basis and are true to their word. Then, there are those who run contests when it's a special occasion or holiday. Don't forget those hosts who have more than one thing going on at once, constantly! It's hard to keep up with it all. Trust me, I've tried, but there are so many amazing things out there, there tends to be a certain lack of time to do it all.

While exposure for these wonderful things is great, very welcome and much needed sometimes, it doesn't mean that the end result is a positive one. Many hosts end up begging for a few extra entries in order to make it worth their time, while others have so many entries, they can hardly keep up with it all.

How do you enter contests? Is it a genre decision or just spur of the moment?

It's understandable that you can't be here every minute of every day and that you can't possibly enter all the contests which are out there, but you try your best, right? Right?! Perhaps you shy away from certain ones because you think you may not be a good enough writer or participant for it.

Let's scratch that!

Entering contests is a great way to get your writing inspiration going - delve into worlds you never thought possible. They might even give you that necessary nudge in the right direction to write what you've been putting off or haven't yet figured out how to put on a page. It all depends on how you look at things - positive or negative.

Yet, seeing how there are a ton of things to do and enter, it's hard to make a decision as to which one to enter and when. The best thing to do is - make a list of all the contests you find appealing. If you even find it remotely interesting, mark it! Save it in your favorites, or even better, have a place designed specifically for such things. Make it easily accessible to you as well as others. That is a way to give extra exposure to those items which may need it. Separate them into a coherent order. Weekly, biweekly, monthly, certain occasion, whatever floats your boat.

Pick and choose. Switch back and forth between those contests, instead of entering just certain ones at all times. Give other hosts a chance to read your amazing writing and not only that, but challenge yourself to learn new things, explore different genres, do something outside the box for once.

When you do enter a particular contest, it's always nice to see which contest that particular entry went to. It's another touch of exposure for those doing the hard work of running those contests. Others who review your work will most likely click on the link to see for themselves what's it all about.

Be nice. *Wink* Help those in need as they're helping you.

'til next time!

I'm fairly new here, and I've enjoyed writing, contests, challenges, and so forth. I am adding the newsletters to my "must read" list, and I find that they are helpful, encouraging and thought provoking. Thanks for sharing these letters!

Glad you're enjoying yourself here! Newsletters can be fun to read, thought provoking, as well as very informative. I found that just because it's labeled a specific genre doesn't necessarily mean that it's always about that particular genre or subject. Our readers help us in directing our thoughts most times. *Wink*
