Feast or Famine!

I don't know about you, but it seems to me that I'm either super busy or have nothing to do at all. My job is like that often. I'm self-employed and find myself either nearly overwhelmed with work or twiddling my thumbs waiting for work. I find that other areas of life can be like that, too, including writing.

Do you ever get hit with lots and lots of ideas and you don't know where to start? Or suddenly you're inspired to join ten contests or activities at once? Or maybe you're hosting a lot of contests and activities all at once? What's the best way to manage all of them at once?

I've grown up thinking that multi-tasking is a virtue, but I've recently read that it's not. Trying to do too many things at once dissolves your focus, and getting distracted can interrupt your mind, possibly halting creativity!

Here are some tips that might help you if you've got a lot going on:

*Idea* Keep a calendar. I'm a huge fan of calendars! Write in deadlines, ideas, notes, etc. Just don't spend too much time organizing your thoughts so that it cuts into your creativity time!

*Idea* Focus on one thing at a time. Try to concentrate on one thing so that your concentration is centered on just one item. If ideas for another project pop into your head, jot down some notes but get back to the item at hand.

*Idea* Minimize distractions. Turn off your phone (or perhaps just silence it) to minimize distractions. Try to schedule some quiet, alone time for yourself if possible.

*Idea* Enlist help. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you're feeling overwhelmed. Invite guest-hosts for contests and activities! Ask fellow writers for reviews or editing help.

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (October 28, 2015)), discussed NaNoWriMo

Thank you for featuring my fundraiser in your Newsletter! *Smile*
I'm swamped with schoolwork and actual work (translating old newspaper articles about tattooing from English to Japanese!), but I really hope I would be able to submit something for the Journey through Genres. *Bigsmile* With my ghost encounters in real life, I could probably write something inspired by an experience and just add more crazy, outrageous details. *Laugh*

Thanks, again. *Heart*
