Give It Time
This newsletter is about your contest entries. Whether it's a poem, short story or a fun little microfiction, the time and effort you put into your work is measurable. You found a contest that interested you, brainstormed a great idea and then wrote something. And if you read any of my newsletters, you listened to my advice and looked it over for grammar, spelling and double-checked that the specific requirements for the contest were met.
Now hopefully you're not putting the last shine on this entry at 11 p.m. when the deadline is midnight, right? Here's where another little tidbit of advice falls into place. Give it a day or two. Don't post your entry immediately. What? Okay, set a reminder on your phone or something to remember to actually go back and enter it if you're nervous about missing the deadline.
All I'm suggesting is stepping away from your work for a short time and then reviewing it with fresh eyes. I can't tell you how many times I plunked an entry in a contest and then noticed all kinds of little things I wanted to fix. Sure, the contest might allow you to edit after entering, but do you really know when the judge is going to take their first look at it? Not really. They might be just as excited as you are and take a peek early on. And they might notice before you do, that you misspelled the title, or forgot some line breaks between paragraphs...or worse, forgot to bold the prompt words like required in the contest rules. Ugh!
So give your work a little private time in your portfolio and give it one last look before you enter. Or better yet, get a friend to take a peek and let you know if there are any glaring errors. This way your entry gives a great first impression the moment you post it in the contest.

Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu, etc.? Whatever your character's faith may be, show and/or tell us about a formative experience that led to those beliefs.

Excerpt: This is a time sensitive contest - early entry is allowed and encouraged, however... the starting drivers and starting order are not made available until AFTER qualifying for the race is completed.
Excerpt: This activity is similar to the TV show. For those who aren't familiar with it, players take turns guessing letters until they can solve the puzzle. In this activity, you may purchase a consonant for 1k or a vowel for 2k. I will then reveal that letter wherever it occurs in the puzzle. For instance, you may purchase an "A," and there may be four of them. I would reveal all four of them. As the letters are filled in, you may want to solve the puzzle. To try and solve the puzzle, pay 10k. If you solve it, you will receive a prize from a group of prizes especially donated for that purpose.

Excerpt: Stop by to write a message of appreciation for another WDC member. This could be in the form of a written message, reviews, a gift, or whatever lovely thing you can think of!
Excerpt: Every round, I'll post one half of a sentence - a prompt, if you will. (Black card) These will be from famous authors/poets/movies/books (I will specify the source below - please don't use the same ending.) The whole point is to come up with a new version of that sentence. / Finish the line with the funniest response you can think of. Traditionally, there are choices offered (white cards) but here you'll have to come up with the response yourself. Your reply has to be longer than 2 words and lesser than 15.
