Yeah, I know this is the short stories newsletter, but there is late-breaking news that must be discussed, people! 
On October 2, 2016, The StoryMaster  opened Trinket Beta Testing to the WDC community. I quickly found myself addicted to the dang things, creating four trinkets in just a few hours (and spending 200k gift points to do so).
Since their debut, it's been a virtual feeding frenzy with limited-edition trinkets being snatched up in seconds, leaving those of us who weren't quick enough bummed out and looking for the next available bauble.
On October 3, The StoryMaster posted this in his notebook:
"Originally I opened the creation of these with a 'transfer-lock' essentially that let the creator prevent these from being transferred once someone had collected them. Note that I've removed that as an option going forward on new trinkets. If you created a transfer locked one already, it will maintain that setting... but going forward, they've all got to be transferrable... because, well, that's the spirit of Trinkets!"
So you won't be able to create Trinkets with a "transfer-lock" anymore. Now all newly created Trinkets can be dropped, traded, or transferred to other members.
You can limit your trinkets by number (allowing only a few to be collected), by secreting them away within existing items (like hiding one inside a short story), by membership level (registered authors and higher, preferred authors and higher, etc.), or by making them available only to fellow group members. You can also use them as access keys to specific items.
Trinket Mania is alive and well, and there are many to be had. As of 12:11 a.m. mountain time on 10/5/16 The StoryMaster estimates 150 have been created since the beta release. Some creators make you jump through hoops to get them (read/review several items in their port, for example), while others give them away for the heck of it. In fact, if you go to my notebook right now I have six trinkets up for grabs, and you don't have to do anything to collect them except click on them. Some are limited editions (no more than 100 can be collected), so get to gettin'. 
Trinkets are fun, they're addicting, and they're a unique way to increase traffic to your portfolio and encourage group/site-wide participation.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that everyone who responds will receive an exclusive trinket. This limited-edition trinket will be retired on November 2, 2016, when my next Short Stories Newsletter goes live--at which point a new, exclusive trinket will be available only to those who respond to that newsletter.
