What if I Don't Want to NaNo?

I'm sure you're seeing it everywhere! But what is there to do if you don't want to NaNo this month?

So, it's here, it's there, it's everywhere, and a lot of people are doing it. (By the way, I applaud every one of them! I have tried! I intended to this year, but I am just not sure it is going to happen - work may not allow it.) So, it does beg the question, "What if I don't want to NaNo?"

Before you wonder, no, this does not make you whiny. Some of you simply don't have time, or the desire, or maybe you simply aren't there yet as a writer to want to write an entire novel or novella. Especially not in one month. Let's face it, no joke, it's stressful!

On this site, it's all around you. If I'm going to perfectly honest, when I first joined, I had no idea what NaNoWriMo was. I went through about three years before I figured it out, and once I did, I felt really silly. Excited! But silly.

So, if you are one of those who does not want to partake in the NaNo festivities this year, here are some alternative things you can do:

1. Find a NaNoWriMo participant and be their cheerleader! It is going to be a stressful month for them, and they are going to need someone to encourage them and remind them that they can do it. If you still want to participate, but don't want to write, this is a way you can help someone else make it through their novel.

2. Don't forget our site contests here! We always have plenty of contests to participate in here on the site. Look on the "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com [E] page and keep track of short term writing contests and keep your muse stretching their creative muscles.

3. Start a blog! If you don't have a blog on the site yet, you could definitely start one now. It's still a way to stretch your writing and keep in touch with people, and it'll keep you writing while everyone else is frantically writing a novel.

4. Write a novel! No, really. You can still start writing a novel, even if it will take you longer than a month. Just because you aren't participating in NaNoWriMo doesn't mean you can't still start working on that idea that's knocking around in your brain.

5. Join a group! Find a new group that fits your interests! Finding people with similar interests will give you lots to do, no matter wht it might be that you like.

6. Review! I know I say this a lot, but hey, reviewing is just great. You can also stop by the public reviewing page and reward some reviews.

NaNo or not, there is still tons to do around this site, so don't think you have to disappear for the month of November. Please stick around for all of the fun! There is still plenty to be had.
