 How To: Create a Contest or Activity Page On a Budget 
A lot of you are newbie members of WDC, and with that comes a lot of excitement. So many things to do and so many ideas to write. I remember how kind members were when I joined, the lovely reviews I received and greetings from lots of veteran members. I entered lots of contests and even won one here and there. I've even run a few contests. They're always lots of fun and I get to know a bunch of different people and read new work.
So along with that excitement comes the urge to participate, maybe even hold an activity or contest yourself. Great! My best piece of advice is to look at a LOT of contests and activities. I'm not saying to COPY their format, but take a look at how it is set up. Is it easy to understand? Are there a lot of steps to it? Can you figure out on the first read through, how to enter? All of these things are so important.
Sure, some contests and activities have flashy banners and cool colors but as a newbie, you're on a budget. How can you dress up your page? Well there are some fun emoticons and text options available to all members of the site. First, the text...you can create larger text by typing a little code cue in your page. You can find the text/color options right above the text field in your creation page. Making larger text is explained in Docs & Help. To find that page, go to the left column of your WDC page, click Writing.Com Tools > WritingML: Docs & Help. You can practice the effect of the codes in your Notepad (also found in the left column). Those codes are great for creating dividers and header text for sections of your contest/activity. Then you might want to jazz it up with some emoticons. (A few! Like croutons on a salad, not the whole loaf of bread!) You can find those by clicking the  link above the creation text field or clicking in the left column Writing.Com Tools > WritingML: Emoticons. Thanks to the incredible talent of The StoryMistress  , there are a ton of fun images to choose.
Once your page is created and doubled checked, be sure to ask a friend to take a look. It's amazing how a fresh set of eyes can help spot mistakes. They can also make any suggestions to make the page more fun. Once you're ready, don't forget to post your item in "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" or "Activities @ Writing.Com" Enjoy!

All you need to do, is to write a story or poem as if the object itself is actually an animate character. Give the object animate (human) thoughts, feelings, family, body parts, emotions etc.

I am sure most writers have heard of the six word story that was attributed (however, falsely) to Ernest Hemingway- it told a heart wrenching glimpse in just six short words. This challenge will be a little easier on you- you will have 50 to 75 words to tell a succinct moment, an important scene or even a common one, that is filled with nuance.

Keep in mind!! I judge according to how the story impacts me emotionally. NOT a grammar contest!!
This activity challenges you to write and review once a week for the three coldest months of the year. During December, January, and February you are asked to enter one erotica or romance contest per week. You must also review the fellow writer who posted his/her story in this forum right before you.

Edwina KingLewis  responded: There's so much to learn here, and I may not have that many years, so I'm not sure where I'm supposed to answer last month's question, but here it is:
Ideas for trinket uses: My goodness, there are so many...
Cool earrings, bracelets, belts, necklaces, hair pieces, add to blazers, and so much more in that frame. Use to decorate lampshades, add to frames for era-related photographs; Make the trinkets the content of a beautiful picture frame. In the office, use to decorate the top and sides of bulletin boards, to make items stand out on the board. Take it from there to come up with more ideas. I'm not a very creative person, but there is just no end to the things one can use trinkets for. Love the question. Hope I added a bit to it.
