Reviewing Contest Entries
As a contest/activity host, do you review your contest entries? You should!
Reviewing has been my favorite activity since I joined Writing.Com, and it's pretty much the entire point of an online peer-to-peer community for writers, right?
Judging is part of the contest hosts's responsibilities. When you run a contest, you're most definitely expected to pick a winner, and to do that, you have to read all the entries. It just makes sense to send a review while you're at it.
 It shows you've read and thought about the piece. Participants want to know you put some time into thinking about their work.
 It can help explain. A contestant may be wondering why their work didn't win (or why it did), and reviewing will help them understand.
 It can act as a consolation prize, or part of the prizes given out. Some writers may be more inclined to enter a contest if they know they're going to receive a quality review no matter what. I often see members asking how they can get their work reviewed. It's one thing a lot of us want - to have our work read and reviewed. Offering it as a prize to every qualifying entry can be a great way to offer a prize to everyone! (Make sure to specify if you will review every entry or every qualifying entry. Does an entry that doesn't follow the rules still get a review? That's up to you!)
Make the review public to advertise your contest! One more way to get some exposure for your contest is to include a link to the contest in your review. That way anyone looking at the public review page might see it! (Make sure the bulk of your review is a review itself, not just a plug/advertisement for your contest!)
In general, reviewing is just a really great idea. There are so many perks and rewards, tangible and intangible! It's a good idea to review your contest entries to be a good host. It shows you've given thought when running your contest and choosing winners.

Yes, I have personally writing fanfiction. But thing is, I haven't written much here. Anyways, nice newsletter. I'm sure I could start fanfiction here someday. ~ Tao Dragon

I love fan fiction! I only ever thought of reading it, but accidentally wrote it when I joined in the Talent Pond's Masquerade party. Silly me: even though those attending dressed up (wrote) about their character in the way they imagined their character would interact, I still hadn't made the connection to fan fiction. That said, re-reading my contribution as Terry Pratchett's DEATH character, my efforts were pure fan fiction. In real life I once entered the "Marple Short Story Contest" with an Agatha Christie Miss Marple parody, only to find out the contest referred to the local town of Marple... ~ Acme 
 Accidental fan fiction? I love it!
