About This Newsletter

Hiya activity lovers! I am happy to be a guest editor! *Smile* Perusing the Activities at WDC these unsung beauties popped up for attention! So let's explore the world of In & Outs for fun!

Letter from the editor

What is an in and out?

A format for interacting with short entries by one or more writers. The idea is that new additions replace the older ones in a rolling or scrolling list. Each In an Out can have 100 additions so at 101 number one disappears. The space to write is limited to around 255 characters per entry.

What kinds of themes, activities can they be used for?

*Sun*The sky is the limit...er....maybe. I had not idea how many uses there were for this type of static item. *Shock*

*Burstr* In and Outs are ideal for short answer activities, lists, question/answer chats, request pages and record keeping.
WDC has numerous ones like review request pages, the contest and activities page under Community Tab.

"The Shameless "Plug" Page or "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com and "Please Review

I found the form so useful in my Give it 100 Record keeping as I could simply enter what I did each day and it was easy to check progress. It did not require the size of a blog and saved room in my port. *Wink*

In my playtimes at WDC I have seen In & Outs used for so many cool things. I recall one, now gone by the wayside, about Haiku, where folks could add the short haiku in turn, or even do one line and the next person add the next and so on! Short and sweet and yes, can be a challenge! *Wink* Here is one that has a similar intent: "Invalid Item.

*Delight* One of the first creative ones I came across, way back when I was a newbie was: "Imagination Alphabet! You can see how it works with an inviting introduction section and a scroll that shows the last entry first, so the person knows what the next letter will be. *Smile*

*Candleb* They are quite popular choice for Guest books or Happy Birthday items where short greetings and messages are invited. *Delight* Here is a lovely example "Invalid Item.

*Puzzle1* Word games or rolling stories like the famous "Three Word Mayhem!! I found this one to be an easy and relaxing break from busy head work. Certainly it allowed for strange outrageous story lines!

*Laugh*I have seen In & Outs for Poem or joke chains where people can complete each others beginnings, and for
Record Keeping for activities or tasks completed as in Give it 100 or contests.
They are fun and anyone can play! *Crazy*

How are they different from Campfire items or Interactives?

In & Outs are easy to manage and the entries short so as to take little time.
Campfire items can be much longer writings and require people to sign up to participate.
Interactives have more space for the writing and often may be for longer themes and often have a longer story/poem intent.

*QuestionR* Things to think about when You make one

Creating one is simple and before you do consider these questions:

How many submissions to you want displayed at one time?
Do you need the Newest addition to be first or last?
Do you want the writer to have the choice to delete their entry?
How many short additions can a person do before passing it to another?
What basic alluring info do you want in your 40 character title?

*Burstr* Everything you need to know on how to create one is all here:
www.writing.com/main/books/action/view/entry_id/699105

So, it seems like anything goes with an In&Out, from the private and personal to the WDC wide trips into word study, outrageous story lines, poetic musing, chatting, recording requests and accomplishments and...well...what can you do with one? *Wink*

Now I invite you to jump in and out as you "Tap the Muse for fun!
