Great American Solar Eclipse
Last week the USA had a really cool experience, a solar eclipse that crossed the country! For those who got to see the total eclipse, it was surely an amazing experience, and I'm totally jealous!
See, my sister and I drove about 12 hours to South Carolina to be in the path of totality, and a rainstorm popped up so we missed the whole thing. Well, we didn't miss the entire thing. We saw the very start of it before clouds took over the sky. It did still get eerily dark, so that was a cool experience, but we missed out on seeing all the really cool stuff when the moon covers the sun.
The thing is, we knew traveling to Charleston, SC was a risk. It's a city known for rain, and as we got closer to our trip, the forecast wasn't looking promising either. We still managed to have a lot of fun, though! We were there a few days early so we got to explore and see some really cool places and eat some amazing Southern food. It was a great time!
How does this relate to Contests & Activities? Well, although we plan for the best (for success), sometimes we don't get it. And that's okay. There are important and valuable things along the way! Everything can be a learning experience and there are silver linings to most experiences if you look hard enough for them.
If you didn't win a contest or your contest isn't a huge success, try again! The USA has another solar eclipse in 2024, and this one is even closer to where we live, so you can guarantee we'll be driving to the path of totality again! And we can use what we learned from the first trip to try to make the second more likely to be a success!
What I realized is that getting rained/clouded out is part of the "Eclipse Chasers" experience (people who drive to see eclipses are actually called that!). How many times have you heard about Stephen King or JK Rowling getting rejected before they were published? It's all part of the experience of being a writer, right? So, if you can, try to embrace it and learn from it!
