About This Newsletter

Hello, everyone. I am ~ Santa Sisco ~ . I'm one of the three permanent editors of the Noticing Newbies newsletter.

I aim to ensure you have a smooth transition into the site. I still remember my first day here. "Bitem?" Do I have to be a computer programmer to put my writing on here? *Laugh* Forty-eight hours later, I realized it was a case of easy when you know how!. My biggest mistake when I joined was that I didn't take the time to read the "Writing.Com 101. I was excited and wanted to do everything the same day. Sound familiar? *Smile*
You will see my contributions every four weeks, and I hope they help you with using this great site.

My fellow permanent editors are Brooklyn and Sara♥Jean .

Letter from the editor

Happy new year!

I hope 2018 brings you happiness, good health, and plenty of reading and writing.

Have you made a new year resolution this year? If you have a main goal to achieve, why not make this the year you achieve it, or at least start the process of obtaining it. Every year I have a list of resolutions and I rarely complete half of them. This year I’m going to keep it simple and just have the one resolution/goal for the year. Here are a few suggestions for you to think about.

Reading is one activity that can help to improve your own writing. I have seen or read many interviews with authors, and one piece of advice they all give to aspiring authors is to read as much as you can. I know some people will not want just to read novels, and you are fortunate to be members of WDC as we have poems, short stories, long stories, and novellas to get stuck into. You don’t have to pay any extra to read material on here so get reading! *Smile*

Write more.

Writing is a skill and will only improve when you practice. The good thing about practicing your writing is that you don’t have to show anyone what you have written unless you want to. However, feedback about your writing will undoubtedly help you to know if it is improving. If you have written a novel, I’m sure you will have deleted paragraphs or even whole chapters. The more you write, the easier it is to let go of the writing that just didn’t work. *Bigsmile* Try writing in a different genre or one you haven’t tried before.

Review.

I know you will have probably heard it before, but reviewing really does improve your own work. We find it more natural to cast a critical eye over someone else's work. After doing a few reviews, you will find grammatical errors and other things you don’t think work; then you will realize your own writing has the same errors. *Smirk* Reviewing is also a great way to make friends on here as you are helping a fellow writer to fulfill their writing ambitions. I also find that because of my reviewing; I am more confident leaving product reviews when I buy something online. {Unexpected bonus!)

Personal goals.

Doing something you know you want/need to do. Perhaps this is the time to stop smoking, drink less, lose weight/gain weight, or any other goal you want to achieve. Keep it simple and focus on getting the result you desire. Remember, you can earn gift points for just posting your weekly goals on "Weekly Goals. This can be an excellent tool for keeping track of your progress if you like breaking your goals down to nice weekly chunks.

My own new year resolution is to be online at least ten days per month and to do a minimum ten reviews per month. I’ll keep you posted! *Bigsmile*
