Doing...Nothing
I'm back with another national celebration day. While I'm looking forward to National Winnie the Pooh Day (Jan 18) and National Cheese Lovers Day (Jan 20), I did have a bit of a struggle with Kiss a Ginger Day (Jan 12...who kisses roots? Ohhhh...hair.) and National Oysters Rockefeller Day (Jan 10...I like them raw!) I persevered.
I did want to bring your attention to January 16, while it fell on Martin Luther King Day this year and was overshadowed by many, I was a staunch celebrant and did my best to honor January 16th, National Nothing Day. The day celebrates just that...nothing. So I started the day off with a bang and slept in. I ignored making the bed and the pile of laundry and did nothing! It's amazing how doing nothing can create all kinds of guilt, isn't it?
But I do encourage you to celebrate at least with a short stint of doing nothing. Let your mind wander and clear out all the cobwebs. Doing nothing with your body can certainly get the gray matter jumping. I think it would be a great time to do some free thinking sketches, or maybe hang with a friend and do some brainstorming. Add a nice beverage and a lovely snack and National Nothing Day is underway.
Next year, I'm going to start celebrating Nothing Day early...maybe stretch it out for a week! As always, be inspired and Write On!

Excerpt: Leah didn’t think she could be more tired than she was at that moment. Everything that could have gone wrong had gone wrong. All she had left were clothes soaked in dust and blood, and a failed mission that had cost countless lives in the process. Everything she had done was for freedom from the X and their tyrannical rule, but that freedom was fading away with each new dawn.

"Mmmm," Jake tried to ignore him. It was going to be a long ride. Thanks a million, Dad.
"You visiting someone or do you ride this bus now?"
"I ride this bus now," Jake replied, tone flat, hoping to shut Ben up.
Excerpt: It was late one night at the office. A cold, rainy night. The kind of cold, rainy night that leaves you feeling like you're living in a horror movie of some kind. We were working late on a project that just wouldn't come together. No matter what we tried, something would either fall through, not quite add up, or just outright fail, and I was the one everyone blamed. We were reviewing the project plan, for what felt like the hundredth time that night when suddenly, a flash of light, then a thunderous boom, followed by utter darkness. I activated the screen on my smartphone, and looked around for the others. They were all doing the same. As I was trying to get my eyes to adjust to the faint light, I heard another thunderous boom say...
"Alex!" That's me. "Get down to the basement, and check the breakers!".
Excerpt: Scree's inner ear jangled. Life-holder was alive with sonar. Unfortunately, they came from no particular direction. Whoever the signal-sender was, they did not have any concept of control. Either that or were too frightened to care.
Scree flicked his gray flukes and slipped forward quickly and easily through life-holder. He had to get to the sender quickly and try to exert some semblance of control, or it would begin to endanger the pod. The shelf was prime feeding ground for Orca.

Mary Ann MCPhedran  commented: Hi, this is a special time for me, although I have lost a few friends who have passed over and I feel pain in my heart. I must not dwell on this pain and I have to look on the bright side and keep the happy memories of them. I had a visit from two people who I loved dearly when they were children and they came to see me. It was a lovely surprise and it was a nice feeling that they still loved me and remembered me as auntie Molly. God is good, because as one door closed on the loss of my family friends He opened another and sent me this visit. It's been nice chatting and have a veery happy holiday.
