Hello, everyone. I am ~ Santa Sisco ~ . I'm one of the three permanent editors of the Noticing Newbies newsletter.
I aim to ensure you have a smooth transition into the site. I still remember my first day here. "Bitem?" Do I have to be a computer programmer to put my writing on here?  Forty-eight hours later, I realized it was a case of easy when you know how!. My biggest mistake when I joined was that I didn't take the time to read the "Writing.Com 101" . I was excited and wanted to do everything the same day. Sound familiar? 
You will see my contributions every four weeks, and I hope they help you with using this great site.

I often receive emails from newbies and established members asking me how to gift a paid membership to a friend on WDC. I will cover that first, and as they are close to each other, I will also include how to add items to your wishlist for anyone who wants to gift you. (Did you know about the wish list?) 
How to buy a paid membership for someone on WDC:
In your left-hand menu column, scroll down to the shopping cart icon and click on the word “Shop.” Click on the “Paid memberships. ”
Click on the corresponding item for the type of membership you wish to gift and the length of the membership. Then scroll down and click on “This paid membership is a gift for:” You will need to enter the member’s username only, as the @writing.com is not needed as it is already there for you. Then click the Add To Cart button and then check out with the payment method of your choice.
If you want an easier way to pay with gift points, and anonymously if you wish, do the following:
Go to the member’s portfolio and click on the Community tab. On the top left, you will see a case with the member’s account Est date and under that are two clickable links in blue; Membership Info and Wish List. Click on the Membership Info and a pop-up box will display the member’s membership level and expiry date. (Unless they have set this information to “Private.” Click on the corresponding item for the type of membership you wish to gift and the length of the membership. Then scroll down and leave a message for the member if you want to. If you don’t want them to know who sent the present, check the box next to, “Check to send this gift anonymously!” We have angel members who do this to avoid the member feeling indebted to the gifter. (Often, gifted memberships are sent to help members struggling with finances.) However, if you send this gift to a friend for something special, like a birthday present, then you probably do want them to know it is from you.
Wish List:
While you are on the Community page of the member, also have a look at the Wish List as this will show any items the member would appreciate gifted from the WDC shop. To purchase an item from the wish list, you click on the “Add to Cart” button then proceed to the checkout and use your preferred payment method.
If you want other members to know what you would like, rather than receiving something you would rather not, then it is a good idea to add a few items from the shop in your wish list. Adding items to your wish list is very simple. Go to the Shop, in your left-hand menu column, scroll down to the shopping cart icon and click on the word “Shop.” Click on the “The WDC Shop. ” Everything except gift points and paid memberships can be added to your wish list. Click on the item you want, then click the yellow Add To Wish List” button. The item will now show up on your wish list in your Community tab.
