I often write about where an author can find ideas for stories. Sometimes a contest will come up (Hey, think about the upcoming birthday contests!) and an idea just won't fit. Let me tell you, I have a majillion ideas but like a corndog on a stick, sometimes its not the right fare.
I have a Twitter account. I think I made it to help promote WDC a decade few years ago. At the time I subscribed to some things of interest and then just for spits and giggles, I added a few off the wall things. Some of the tweets from those people are righteously funny. And when something makes me laugh and gets my head going, you know what happens next, a story.
Facebook is another place. The Land of Sharing brings some mighty hilarious stuff to my doorstep. A lot of people share things for two reasons, to inform or to share a laugh. Apparently my friends do a LOT of laughing. What I really want to know is who the person is that does these photoshop images and shares them with some dumbkins that instantly share it without reading that it's a joke. A few hundred shares later, a dire warning is added and giant grizzly bears are invading New York city.
All giggles aside, some of those posts and tweets get my creative side of the brain percolating and producing ideas like a coffee urn at a wedding shower. The important thing I've learned from it is to jot these ideas down in a clear way so that when I need a great prompt for a contest entry, I can recall what it was I thought would make a fun story.

Prompt: Characters sometimes have to make hard choices. Write a short story in which your protagonist
must to do something he or she truly detests or fears for the benefit of the greater good.

Excerpt: In the Second Time Around Contest, we are slightly different to most of the others. Whereas, usually, you are asked for new writing only, in this contest we want old writing only. You must have already entered it into a Writing.com contest. The item must not have placed.
Excerpt: The most basic rule for our contest is that you must show all the facets of your story as opposed to telling them. Each month, we'll give you four or five sentences that will serve as a story prompt. Your task will be to write a story that includes the information in the prompt.
Excerpt: Write eight lines, or less (had to clarify it can be less than 8 lines ), of poetry to try and move me. It can be happy, sad, provacotive, or entertaining. To me, the point of poetry is to make the reader envision the scene and feel the emotion. I'm reviewing on how you effect the reader...that's me, and on visualization and creativity.

The challenge: write a poem with exactly 24 syllables! The poem can be broken up any way you like ~ 6/6/6/6, 4/8/4/8, 8/8/8, etc. any combination you come up with, but must be 24 syllables. This will be a daily prompt based contest.
Excerpt: Entries must consist of one photo, taken with a camera and edited no more than cropping, and a short writing no longer than one hundred words for descriptions, essays, or short stories OR ten lines for poems. Entries which exceed their word/line count will be disqualified if they are not fixed by the end of the week.

Excerpt: Every review that follows the rules will be credited with some shiny GPs. Entrants will be subject to random rewards and surprises as I see fit. If you complete 15 reviews in one month, you'll be entitled to a Merit Badge. If you're lucky, and I have a way with words, I might even try and negotiate some of the rarer MBs that the featured contests have.

QueenOwl ~ A New Day Dawns  suggests: Ways to earn GPs: 1) I earn GPs by logging in daily. That’s 100 points accummulated each day. 2) I go to Read and Review to pick on pieces to review. The automatic GP rewards have been doubled lately. 3) I choose to review items with GP rewards. 4) I work fast and furious on the monthly Raid to earn GPs as much as I can.

eyestar~*  mentions: I enjoyed your comments and ideas for summer clean up and especially about having funds available. It is valueable for beginners with a first contest to keep it simple and affordable too. Thanks for sharing.
