Letter from the editor

We all need things which help us stay creative and motivated to write new pieces. I have always wanted to be a writer, and there were three toys I played with as a child which helped me stay creative and come up with new ideas for my stories and other pieces. Today, I will be sharing these toys with you.

Barbies

I loved Barbie as a child. I had every possible Barbie doll in existence, or so it seemed. I loved to do their hair and put them into different scenes where my dolls had their own personalities and interacted with each other. Putting my dolls' hair into different styles even gave me different ideas for stories to write.

The hours I spent playing with my dolls were some of the most enjoyable and creative. I loved making up the stories that my Barbie dolls would star in.

Legos

I think if I had any technical skills I would have become a scientist or an architect. I loved designing. As I built different buildings and neighborhoods, I created different worlds for characters to interact in. This gave me many different ideas for stories, poems and some early non-fiction.

I found that playing with Lego blocks helped my concentration. This helped me focus later on in life as I devoted myself to writing stories, poems and essays. I had many happy hours playing with my Legos.

Einstein

This was a little computer type toy which played little tunes which I was required to play back exactly as Einstein played them. I loved the repetition of playing with Einstein. I used to spend hours and hours mimicking the little tunes which Einstein played.
This toy also helped me with concentration. It was another great help when I sat down to write.

I love repetition and routine, even today. These toys fostered this and helped develop my creativity.

I am a bit older than a great many of the writers on Writing.com, so I am not sure how many of you are familiar with these toys. I hope other childhood toys have the same good influence on creativity that these had on mine.
