About This Newsletter

"Know thou that supplication and prayer is the water of life. It is the cause of the vivification of existence and brings glad tidings and joy to the soul."
Abdu’l-Baha, Star of the West, Vol. 5, p. 302.

Letter from the editor

When I was growing up, I thought that a prayer meeting had to be held in a place of worship. Such as a temple, church, or synagogue. I also thought that they had to be directed by someone with religious authority. I grew up and found out that both assumptions were wrong. One can hold a prayer meeting or devotional anyplace, with two or more individuals present. All that is necessary is the desire to share scriptures and prayers, and a quiet place to hold the devotional.

Prayer is both food and water for the human spirit. It connects individuals wither their concept of the Almighty and whichever divine prophet or messenger revealed their spiritual path or religion. The wonderful thing about living in the age of the World Wide Web is that you can find scriptures and prayers from any religion to use during a prayer devotional meeting. You can also say prayers that come directly from your soul or read spiritual poetry.

As I have written before, my spiritual path is the Baha'i Faith. I have downloaded a prayer app to my smartphone that gives me access to both Baha'i prayers and scriptures. For those whose spiritual path is different from mine, I encourage you to download an app that gives you access to the scriptures of your own faith, so that wherever you are you can refresh your souls with words of faith.

September is coming up, and I am looking forward to going to the devotional meeting at the Baha'i Center in Las Vegas because the scripture readings are taken from the Holy Books of the various religions. I also have another spiritual newsletter coming out in September. Does anyone have any questions for me? I do not claim to be an expert in any spiritual path or religion because I am still learning the intricacies of my own spiritual path.

Please take a few minutes
to refresh your souls
with meditation or prayer.

Excerpt: I slept above ground during my visit to Terrian. The humans who lived there thought I was seeking a death wish for doing so. I was a child of only twelve years and wondered why these desperate humans, our neighbors, had faith only in hiding from that which killed them: an acquired immune disease.

Excerpt: I have been moved to write of the power of prayer, and hope to shed some light on how prayers can be answered in three different ways, according to God's will, not our own. I also feel I must share how the prayer of a believer can affect those who are nonbelievers. Glory to God! *Delight*

Ask & Answer

spidey writes: I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my mother right around the same time, October 2012. The day after her birthday. I take comfort in getting to talk to her on her birthday and to tell her that I love her, similar to your Thanksgiving memory, I think. I've finally started the acceptance stage, myself. It took a long time, and I think therapy definitely helped me. I agree that a counseling group and talking to others is a big help! Losing a mother is unlike any other loss I've experienced, and it certainly helps to talk to others who have experienced something similar. Again, I'm sorry for your loss, and I wish you continued growth, peace and healing. :)

Quick-Quill writes: Grief and pain are part of life. When one doesn't deal with it, the result can cause the person emotional damage that affects all who come in contact with that person. Change is hard. You choose if you want to accept it, cry over it and move forward changed, or wear it as a nail belt under your clothes making the pain a living part of your daily life. It is your choice what you do with it. God is there. He promised to send the Comforter to help us in our grief. It isn't a permanent attachment. It's a crutch to use until we become strong enough to walk on our own. We may always carry the pain, but it doesn't have to destroy your life.

shepherd46 writes: Wonderful and informative article on grief. I lost my mother six years ago and my father 11 years ago. Everyday I think about them. I have gone through the grieving cycle but I also know that when I die I will see them in Heaven.
