Letter from the editor

At Writing.Com we celebrate two birthdays each year *Partyhato*

*Cake*The first birthday we celebrate begins the first of each September and lasts a week - lthough some party-goers stay for up to a month for extended activities - and yes, we're all welcome. This is Writing.Com's Birthday - and this year, our Community turns 19 years old.

*Cakeb*The other birthday we celebrate every year is the one you chose for yourself - the day you clicked on http://writing.com and decided to grab a portfolio, open it and write. This birthday, also known as Account Anniversary, you cannot conceal; and the date will be celebrated every year, as long as you keep your portfolio.

This day you cannot hide, neither date nor age, as it’s on the cover of your portfolio *briefcase*. By the way, why would anyone want to hide it, since this year, none of us can be over 19 years old, and many of us are even younger. Now, 20, 30 years from now, we won't be as 'young' but think of the possibilities *Smile*

My first day as a Newbie on a chill December’s evening, though I had yet to create an item or even a bio, I was welcomed and asked to share my work. Further, although nobody knew me, a number of writers asked me to read, and review, their writing. That’s what makes our Writing.Com Community unique, I believe. Regardless of our writing experience, age, gender, whether published or emerging writer, or any other myriad of possible markers, we are each welcomed as a peer, a fellow writer.

On your first WdC birthday, by all counting methods, you are officially no longer a Newbie. Some contests and activities use 3 months; others 6; none I know of longer than a year. However, there are always new challenges, new activities, new groups, new writers, each birthday new stuff for your writer’s toolbox. So, by extension, no matter the number of years, you’re never really old at Writing.Com - another reason it’s the place for us writers (grammatical license)*Wink*.

Welcome and
Write On *Pencil*
