Review Me!

One of the main backbones of this community is peer review. Most of us create items in our portfolio to be read. Some members are reader/reviewers and they're just as important as writers. So, once we have our story written and edited...and edited again, we're ready to open it up to our peers for review. Try to have your item as ready as possible. You don't want reviewers weighed down with a ton of spelling errors. We have a spell check tool to help you; use it! While it's a delight to find a review in your inbox, sometimes you have to ask to have your item reviewed.

We have a special place for that! "The Shameless "Plug" Page is a place to post your item (or three) and ask for reviews from your fellow WDC members. Even if your content rating is GC or higher, we have a place to plug that work too! "The GC+ Shameless "Plug" Page allows members to post items with graphic content or items that have a Non-E intro. It's one of the great things about WDC, rate it properly and you can share it, even if it's not everyone's cup of tea.

The plug pages show your title, rating and brief description. They also give you a field to briefly plug your item in 255 characters. My suggestion to members is think about what you want to say in your plug. You don't have to describe the item, that's already in your item's brief description. Think about WHY you're plugging. Is it perfect and you want kudos? Or do you want something deeper? Does the character affect the reader the way you want? Does the story evoke the emotions you desire? Does your grammar need help? Think about what result you want from a review and ask for it. Chances are you'll get a review that will help you edit to perfection.

And as always, Write On!

 A Girl like You  (13+)
In the end, Stiles' and Elaine will be *possessed* of that which lovers own?
#2204146 by Joto-Kai

Excerpt: Stiles wandered about in a daze, not even noticing the little Halloween goblin princesses scampering about taxing for candy. He wished he had had a traditional Halloween costume, not some stupid gesture. The white coat and the frilly pink carnation seemed over the top. Sure, Elaine loved the song, but the guy in it didn't get the girl. Maybe that was the point. He took the jacket and threw it in a dumpster. "That's what I think of your idea."

Excerpt: I tried to start the boat, but the remaining cord got tangled around the motor, and shorted it out. Mark drifted more and more away from the boat. I looked back at him, and he was looking in the water. It seemed as if the shark was still around.

Excerpt: The first time she caught my eye, I couldn’t help but smile. She had a mousy look to her; always positioned near a door. The way she bit her bottom lip…I could (see) the fear that wafted off her–smell it too. Though you don’t grow skilled in that hyper-sensitivity until your heart stops beating.

 From A Different Planet?  (E)
The twins were not what he expected.
#2205305 by Paul

Excerpt: “You think what?”

“I think they are aliens.”

“You think your own children come from a different country? What? Iran? China?”

“No.”

Excerpt: “Look, I know you both have good plans for me and I’m thankful for it. But there’s something I’ve always wanted to do for years.”

“What are you getting at son?” asked Derick’s father asked as he straightened his back.

Derick showed them the paper. “I joined the Air-Force.”

STATIC
I Am the Storm  (18+)
Her forest is diseased, her memories are lost, and her companion is not what he seems.
#2091150 by K Renée (on the road)

Excerpt: In her dreams, small voices cried out, axes cleaved, illness tingled in her lips and toes. An internal, soothing murmur told her she was a tree with eyes that would not open and ears that heard not the vibrations of anguish. The tingle was only sleep. A good sleep, vast and dark as the night.

 A Santa Claus Story  (E)
A father tells his young son a unique take on Santa Claus.
#2205256 by Matthew W Menefee

Excerpt: Ben was seven years old and he didn't believe in Santa Claus anymore. He did last year, but not anymore. He had been told by his fiends at school that Santa Clause didn't exist, "It's a prank put on by your parents", said Billy, his best friend, had told him.

SEARCH
Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2019  (ASR)
A Word Search activity [2019 Quill Nominee]
#2203416 by Writer_Mike

Excerpt: Just a little activity to help bring a bit more awareness to the WDC community.

Ask & Answer

This month's question: What is your edit weakness? Send in your answer below! *Down* Editors love feedback!

Last month's question: What's your favorite season?

Osirantinous replied: Thanks for including my story! Autumn would be my favourite season because of the leaf colours, but also because the days are generally settled - cool but calm. The three other seasons can have crazy weather but I find that autumn is rather composed and it's a nice way to lead from summer to winter.

Lynn Nichole responded: For me, it's a toss-up between autumn and spring. I like them both for the moderate temperatures, the fresh air, and the colors.

hullabaloo22 commented: Autumn, without a doubt.

Mastiff quips: Is the killing season a real season? If so, that's my fave...

amy-Has a great future ahead said: Summer without a doubt.

dragonwoman revealed: Late Spring, Early Fall. I know those aren't seasons but they should be.

s answered: Winter. The bad weather gives me an excuse not to be social, and to sit down and write for stupidly long hours at a time. Or read. Or watch TV. Alone.

shepherd46 posted: Fall because of its beauty and promise.

Bikerider likes: Winter. Because I live in Florida and the winter months are cool and pleasant, a welcome relief from the summer and fall heat.

tj ~ endeavors to persevere! decided: Spring is still my favorite with it's needed relief after a long, cold winter. I love seeing life flow back into everything, the birds and animals out feeding, and the start to camping, kayaking, and hiking. Autumn falls into a close second place as temperatures cool down again, the beautiful fall colors, and the last big rush to enjoy the outdoors before winter sends us back inside until spring.

TheBusmanPoet disclosed: October through April. So Autumn into Early Spring. I tolerate the heat and humidity for golf. Oh the things we sacrifice for our vices....lol

🌕 HuntersMoon joked: You forgot the "ing"... and salt. *Laugh**Rolling*

Jenstrying stated: Spring through Fall. Winter blows. ;)

Indelible Ink remarked: Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
