Letter from the editor

Hiya! I am so happy to be chatting with you all today as I was remembering when I was a newbie 10 years ago December 26th! Signing up was my Christmas gift to me. It was exciting and a bit scary to share openly my expressions! Now 10 years later, I can't believe how far I have come and it seems like only yesterday! And even though I became a Yellow case... I am sure because I reviewed like crazy, and then a leader in the group and then a Moderator...I am still learning. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and this site is always evolving with the times and tech! It has been an amazing and creative adventure. I hope you will find a home away from home here as I did. *Heart*

Now I did wander and wonder a lot at first, finding out things..leaning by the set a of pants as I went along! *Smile* A cool way to do it. *Wink*

*Owl3* Here is my advice for a faster Track than learning by the seat of your pants alone!
We have the phenomenal "Writing.Com 101. It covers everything and you do not have to read it all at once. Just scroll and find the area of interest.

*Questionp**Thumbsup*

*Questionr* Ask a question when it crosses your mind or causes confusion. Sometimes we doubt our own understanding of what we read. Our Purple and Blue cased Moderators are there to help with the workings of the site .... Yellow cases and black cases were once where you are too and most of us are ready to assist or point you in the right direction.

*Laugh*I am sure I drove Maryann and Lornda~Hopping in Wonderland~ crazy with inquiries especially about the workings of techy things like "bitem"! *Laugh* I am so glad I found them at "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group when I joined as there were a lot less newbie help sites back then. *Salute*

*Santahat*Our Red Cased creators know it ALL when we cannot help.*Salute*

*Pointright*In case you are really new...you all have portfolio suitcase with your username... usually black once you write something in your port. Some folks have earned a different colour case.
Every so often The Red team adds members to these groups for active participation, service and kindness. A the membership grows, more help is required. *Heart*

*Quill**Thumbsup*

*Penp* Read and Review other author's amazing expressions! You learn a lot about writing, styles, improve your writing and clarity, and earn incentive gift points for your use.
Reviewing is a vital contribution...and appreciated as we all want to be heard, encouraged and see where we might improve our writing. *Cool*

You can choose form any number of sources: Under the Browse Tabs on the left, and even under the Community Tab eg. {item:https://www.writing.com/main/list_items/type/newbie}*Delight*

*Pointright*Not everyone will have the same Point of view, or intent or need. So looking at an author port or experience may help you decide how to best approach your response. Be honest, kind and encouraging, as you share what you find great, confusing or where some tweaking may be required.
Remember, not everyone will agree, so take what is helpful for you and leave the rest, when receiving a review. *Smile*

Reviewing may also lead to your getting reviews! Some folks like to return the favour! *Wink* It gets your name out there as well and while we do not review Just for gift points...they are a great incentive and collectable so you can save for memberships or gift others. *Heartv* You can even earn community merit badges each month. So get reviewing and see what angels bring! *Fairy2*

*Giftr* I have learned a lot from reviewing and one trick that helped was reading other people's reviews. There are so many styles and a font of information can be gleaned. I got lots of help for reviewing stories and flash pieces as I tend to do more poetry. Sometimes we just want to add a bit more detail but do not know what to comment upon.
You can see all the reviews (except private ones) on {item:https://www.writing.com/main/my_feedback/action/rrs}

There are many articles and suggestions on reviewing! Just ask around. *Wink*

Reviewing is a way of writing, and gives an impression too. So be proud and get your flare out there. *Starstruck*

*Reading**News*

Check out and read the site newsletters. You can sign up for those you want right here:
https://www.writing.com/main/my_account.php?action=ea_form&type=newsletters

Go now! You may forget later. *Laugh*

*Carv* Use your Community TAB and especially the Writing.Com Tools Tab....every technical thing is there. Emoticons, how to link, how to bold etc!!
Also when you open a page to write on...there is bar along the top wick access to these.
*Facepalm* I easily forget this as I do things the hard long way! *Laugh*

*News* Another feature we have now is the NEWSFEED link. Fan people and get folks to fan you and you can tune into what is going on. Folks post recent writings, activities, contests, challenges, interesting links or ask for help. Just another great community service. *Smile*

*Teab**Gingerbread*

*Delight* I found it really helpful and fulfilling to join a group and to enter contests.
There are many to choose from now...with different purposes and prompts. Something for everyone. *Smile*
Check under the Community Tab for contests and activities and under Browse by Type for Forums (groups are usually forum types} Just take note of those which are most current.

I hope this has been helpful, though long winded! My fairy energy was on a role! So much to say after 10 years!

*Heart* In a nut shell: Be YOU! Share your gift! You create your experience! So what will you do as you follow your muse? Let this be a place to begin your journey. You choose. Be kind, give what you would like to receive and expand your receiving ability, as we are all sensitive souls with lots of points of view and magics. *Angel**Fairy2**Wand*

*Candlev* Blessings of the season where ever you are on the journey. *Star*
