A poem on blackberries, written in -Pi-
My mama picked
blackberries
with me in tow,
chuckling
at deft and quick brambles
biting into our hands with a touch of fire
to protect
dark purple-pearl clumps of luscious fruit,
hidden from view under leaves
in maternal care.
Today, the memory cleaves to
those old bushes standing in solace without theatrics,
and it finds a perch where misfortune can't kill,
while healing arms, luminous in dark, pick
a pail of blackberries for a jar of jam
for everlasting sweetness.
