This is a poem I wrote about the relationship between myself and a close friend of mine.
Living in the shadow
Trying to live up to your legacy
But I can't.
I used to be the best.
But that was before
I met you.
I finally met my match,
And lost.
Now I must live forever in your shadow.
A step behind the crowd.
Moving forward ever so slowly.
So slow, in fact, that I may not be moving at all.
My dreams shattered.
Hopes wasted.
Living in the shadow
Of someone I love.
And hate all at the same time.
But it is not hate
Hate confused with jealousy and sorrow.
Easily mistaken.
Tears being blinked back
That I can't let you see.
You musn't.
I weep for you
My dear friend.
For I hope the day you meet greatest challenge,
You triumph
Because I don't want you to feel
the way I do.

Looking back
I’ve seen that
I’ve never been a step behind.
We’ve been on the same rung
Of the same crystal ladder
For I wasn’t the only one
With a hero
Because truth be told
You’ve always admired me.
