A poem about the internal escape and journey of my spirit.
Night envelopes me in her darkness
as I walk quietly along.
Exhaustion overwhelms me,
its tiresome hold is strong.

It has been many days
since I have had a home.
Loneliness has overcome me
as I walk this desolate road alone.

Where I am going, I don’t yet know,
nor do I know when I will get there.
I only know from whence I came
as for going back, I wouldn’t dare!

It is as if I am running away
but, I don’t know from what or from whom.
I merely long for something, somewhere
I suspect I will not find it soon.

I feel the hunger inside me
and my thirst won’t go away,
I travel down this old dirt road
with my fears of Yesterday.

Life has not been too good to me,
nor have I been good to it.
Now, I’m headed somewhere in life
and my past, I want to forget.

Dawn’s first light suddenly appears
as I walk further down the road.
There are brilliant hues from red to blue
and, finally, Daylight unfolds.
