FIELD OF FLOWERS

Sunday warmed
as the day grew long
glowing brightly
over a field of flowers.
I lay there remembering with glee
the images of the sweetness
you brought into my life
and it blinded me
to your treacherous lies.
Like a cancer you devoured my soul
leaving me wanting you...even more.

With my trust
in all that is wonderful
I gave to you my heart,
my soul, my life.
To frolic in your afterglow
was all I desired.
You gave me strength
to love deeply,
passionately...forever.

Even after your deception
I wanted to renew our love
and I clung to the memories
of long ago.
Memories of youthful abandon
upon a blanket
amid the wildflowers.

A tear slowly rifles down my cheek
and is soon followed
by a barrage of bullets.
My onslaught of misery
cheats cupid
of his target.
With distaste
he mourns two lost hearts,
yours...and mine.
