First draft script for the Bonewaker comic.
This comic is about Rick, a character I invented a long time ago. He was designed to be a zombie killer at first, to be able to wade through entire hordes of the undead with just a pair of knives... and come out the other end without a scratch on him and grinning like the devil himself. While he still is a monster killer of sorts, his origins and nature have changed a lot since he was first born in my mind.

Nevertheless, he has remained the Bonewaker, a symbol of death and cruel justice, friend to the righteous and foe to the sinner. Drawing his powers from dark and ancient magic, he stalks evil and unnatural things wherever they roam... and still has time to bag the occasional serial killer.

Trust me, it may seem innocent now, but this comic will get bloody, and a bit disturbing as well.

Still here? Then welcome to Rick's world.

Bonewaker Script: 1st Draft

Page One

*One large panel with a single red mark in the middle. It’s the mark of Anubis, a jackal’s head with two small slits for eyes, looking rather menacing and glowing. Textboxes surround it in a haphazard fashion, providing narration for the story.*

Narrator box 1: There is much speculation around the nature and mystery of the Bonewaker.

Box 2: Some say he’s myth; some legend.

Box 3: Some say he is all too real.

Box 4: The truth is, he is real. More so than some would like to believe. It’s not a comforting thought to realize someone is out there stalking and killing people. Much less if you happen to fit the profile of his victims.

Box 5: But if we are to continue this tale, understand this…

Box 6: Whatever your feelings on law, justice, and sin, put them aside for now. We are going to delve into the life of one of the darkest and most feared legends of all.

Box 7: It won’t be pretty. Consider yourself warned.

Page Two

*Four panels here. One long one at the top. Second stretches along the left side, under the top. The last two are right of the second, taking up the same amount of space.*

Panel One

*Rick, a handsome young jackal is sitting down at a table in a library, books spread out around him as he does some of his homework. He’s concentrating hard on it.*

Narrator Box: This is Rick Bowman. A college student in his first year. The name of the university is unimportant. It is enough to know this is the man behind the myth. Or rather, the man who will become it. He is yet mortal at this point.

*a phone rings in the distance*

Panel Two

*Overhead view of the library, stretching from Rick’s table to the librarian’s desk. There are few people here. Only two or three others are visible, besides Rick and the librarian.*

Narrator Box: Today will change all that. Today is the day that will set him on a path he will regret for the rest of his life. The path of the Bonewaker.

*ringing is cut off as the librarian picks up the phone*

Librarian: Hello?

Librarian: Yeah, he’s here. He’s busy right now. He's studying for...

Librarian: …

Librarian: What? A-are you sure? …oh my god.

Librarian: Yes… yes, I’ll tell him right away.

Panel Three

*The librarian is standing next to the table Rick is working at. He’s stopped long enough to look up at her, pencil in hand hovering over the page.*

Librarian: Rick?

Rick: Yeah, Sheila? What’s up?

Librarian: …I’m sorry, Rick. It’s about your parents.

Panel Four

*Close up of Rick, a look of shock on his face.*

Librarian: Something terrible has happened…

Page Three

*Four panels, two at the top with one over the other, and two at the bottom, side by side.*

Panel One

*Rick rushes up to the front desk in the ER, frantic with worry.*

Rick: Excuse me, miss. Miss!

Panel Two

*View switches to behind the desk, looking at Rick as he leans on the counter, fear and panic in his eyes, hoping he’s not right.*

Rick: Please, I need to find my parents!

Nurse: Names please?

Rick: Thomas and Melissa Bowman. You’ve got to tell me where they are. I have to know!

Panel Three

*Close up of the computer as the nurse types on the keyboard.*

Nurse: Alright, alright, calm down. Let me see what I can find…

Panel Four

*View switches to in front of the desk, showing Rick as he sprints away to find his parents, a surprised look on the nurse’s face.*

Nurse: They’re in Trauma Room 2, but—

Rick: Thanks!

Nurse: Wait, you can’t--!

Nurse: SECURITY!!

Page Four

*Four panels of equal size, arranged in a “window pane” format, each one taking up a corner.*

Panel One

*Rick running down the crowded hallway towards his parents’ room.*

Rick: Excuse me. Pardon me. C’mon, let me through, please!

Narrator: *sigh*

Panel Two

*Rick still running, but now with two security guards after him.*

Narrator: You know…

Guard: Hey you! Stop!

Panel Three

*The guards restrain Rick, who struggles to break free.*

Narrator: …I really hate this part.

Rick: Let me go! I gotta see ‘em!

Guard 1: Sir, you can’t go in there!

Rick: You don’t understand! My parents are in there!

Guard 2: Keep still! You’re not allowed in the room!

Panel Four

*Rick and the guards have stopped struggling, looking off-panel at someone in surprise.*

Doctor (off-panel): What’s going on here?

Unfortunately, that's all I have for now. I'll create more pages as I get time to work on this. Remember, this is not set in stone. If you as an artist feel it would work better some other way, let me know and we'll talk it over. I'm still new to this and want to create the best comic possible. Between the two of us, we should be able to manage it.
