Loving is easy, forgetting is hard.
Bitter-sweet Senses

by E C Wesch

In loving memory of my son James, and my husband James.

With eyes wide open I seek to find, what death has taken from me.
But shadows loom before my eyes, hiding what I can not see.

I sniff the air for a familiar scent, an aroma I had grown to love.
But nothing familiar lingers there, now that you're up above.

With outstretched hands I strive to grasp, and hold on to your memory.
But empty air is all I hold, between clasped fingers...and me.

I try to taste the lingering sweetness, of the love I felt from your last kiss.
But bitter is the taste of death, for you both I'll always miss.

With ears in tune to the sound of your voice, I strive to listen patiently,
But the awful silence in this room, lingers so painfully.
