GOD BENDS DOWN TO LISTEN

A child kneels by his bed to say his prayers,
even little ones have their thoughts and cares
and if on his face a tear should ever glisten;
I am certain that God bends down to listen.

The woman cries out in pain while giving birth,
yet she still knows what every pain is worth;
a silent prayer is sent up to ease the pains,
God bends down to listen and there remains.

A father holds his new-born son in his arms
mesmerized by the baby's angelic charms,
prays that he will become the best dad ever.
Both he and God promise to fail him never.

A man breathes into her mouth the air of life,
praying to God not to take away his wife;
from her lips a gasp for air and tears glisten
and once again God bends down to listen.

A traffic accident has claimed other souls,
we hear the sirens as the ambulance rolls
and we can almost hear the fervent prayers;
God's on the highway, bending by the flares.

The elderly couple have shared many years,
but life is changing, through smiles and tears.
They pray for peace and it will surely come
God is always there for each and everyone.

A soldier prays to God in the heat of the battle
as rockets explode nearby, and his teeth rattle,
that he and his buddies will somehow survive it all;
God is there, bending down, listening to his call.

In church on one Sunday morning she prayed
that the war would end, but the message relayed
that her son was lost, among the missing now,
and God bends down to listen, touch her brow.

It matters not if you pray often, hard and long,
God bends down to listen when things go wrong;
In joy and gladness, or in your deepest despair
you only have to reach up to Him in a prayer.
