An attempt to write something that doesn't rhyme.
A BRIEF RESPITE.

The scorching sun beating down
on the seared brown earth.
The heat is so oppressive
My head feels it could burst.
Cold showers give but temporary relief to my skin.
Will the rains ever come to cool the earth?
Just for a brief respite.

The constant rain has muddied the ground
which comes into the house
disguised as brown footprints
all over the kitchen floor.
Spots of mildew have appeared on the ceiling above me.
Will the winds ever come to clear the sky?
Just for a brief respite.

The biting wind is sending chills
right through to my bones.
How can I move freely
wrapped in layers of clothes?
The sun is shining, but no warmth comes from its rays.
Will the heat of summer ever come to energise us?
Just for a brief respite.

We've a roof over our heads,
It could do with a coat of paint.
We've a good hearty meal on the table,
Aah --- to dress up and dine out.
It's quiet next door -- no kids., ours are so noisy!
Will we ever be satisfied with what we have?
Just for a brief respite!
