He Hears …

I took my daughter and her friend to Chuck E Cheese the other day; we ate at home so I only had to splurge on $10 for tokens. On the drive there, I thought about having a soda, but decided against it because I didn’t want to spend the $2.00.

We found a table in the back, cleaned the table, sat down and then a lady came over and asked if we would mind to move just a few tables down. I didn’t care … I was just going to do some work while the girls played, so I shrugged and said, “Sure.” We moved, and she came over and said that she would like to buy me a beer or a soda for my trouble. I’m thinking, 'what trouble?' I just changed seats, so I said “No, you don’t have to do that.” She was insistent and said, ‘Really, I don’t mind … I want to.” I just kept looking at her and finally realized I needed to take the soda God was giving me! I said, “Okay, if you really want to, I’d love a coke.”

I just chuckled to myself. The girls were off playing, and I was sitting there with my coke. Silly, hm? But He does hear.

Later, as I thought about this it made me wonder why does it seem like on some things He is so far away? Trust me when I say that I have deeper desires and longings than just a soda. I often question are these my desires or His? He knows my thoughts, and He definitely knows my desires. Why is one desire, such as a soda, fulfilled so quickly and the others seem like they may never happen?

Many times in the silence I have heard Him whisper, “I’m here.” And then there are times when I don’t hear anything, but He seems to give me little reminders that He is there … like the soda.

Coincidence some may say. Not me. My life, as His daughter, is not one of coincidence. I may not have what I long for now, but I have to remember He is there and to trust Him. He hears and He knows best.

Habakkuk wrote,

“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”
Habakkuk 2:3
