Are birthmarks hereditary?
THE GIFT

When my Mum and the Lord decided 'twas time
For her final journey away,
My son and his mate were awaiting the birth
Of their very first child any day.

My Mum was a darling. Just stood four foot eight,
And she did have a great feel for fun.
She'd joke about birthmarks, and ask to see yours,
Then she'd show you where God gave her one!

An image as clear as the nose on your face
Was the birthmark upon her left breast.
A beautiful rooster with plumage complete
Displayed on that dear woman's chest.

Somehow, I've digressed, as I normally do,
I'll get back to the reason I came,
When young Liam was born, two weeks from that day,
We were amazed at his birthmark --- The same!

Are birthmarks passed on in a family by genes?
Or are they just blotches on skin?
Or was it a gift Grandma Dot gave to Liam,
To say she'd be always with him?

Written just for JANIE,
Who thought it was a story worth telling.
