Rescued from Drowning

         The Snake River flows fast and furious, water foaming white. Fishing, I fell into the cold wetness.

         I coughed and choked until the dog caught my shoulder. He pulled until we reached shore.

         The dog shook himself. I reached out to pat his head.

         His teeth snapped.

         "Damn," I said. "That dog never liked me."
