120 word flash story for 120 pieces of a nightmare contest
The Jam

The Patterson family was seated for breakfast. Henry Patterson surveyed the table.  Eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, but no jam! He looked to his youngest, "go down to the cellar and bring us some jam.
Jennifer started to cry, "but Daddy, the rats!"
"Sweetheart, Daddy took care of those rats months ago." The minutes passed, he smiled at how those rats had died. Starvation; slow and painful, just what those filthy creatures deserved! Breakfast was getting cold, "go see what's taking your sister so long."
More minutes passed, angry Mrs. Patterson stood up, "I'll get them!"
Even more minutes pass. 'What the hell is happening, 'thought Henry. He slowly approached the cellar door wondering, 'when had he last checked the trap?"
