A competition entry about the needs of me
It takes a lot to keep me happy and at times when I get lots to keep me happy I still need more. I have achieved so much in life that the things I aim for are sometimes a bit unrealistic. It is like climbing Mount Everest. Each camp one reaches is just another gateway to the next camp and the higher you go the tougher it gets. My dream is not that difficult to achieve when you have a team together. At the moment I am split in two. I have the inner voice telling me how I can achieve this particular dream while the body outside believes it’s too much work. The constant bickering of my body doesn’t help much to achieve what the inner voice wants. Sitting in front of a fireplace with a 1976 vintage Shiraz embracing the throat must be an adventure. The fire crackling at the back while your fingers run over the type writer in an effort to finish that best seller. I want to stay in a wooden cabin and see snow for the first time. Staying here on the coast of Southern Africa sweating while taking a shower and where ice-cream is a drink instead of a eat can be very depressing.

The rest of the things I really want are what most people want, freedom, riches and fame. I guess we are all equal in wanting the same things in life and when we get them we lose interest or get bored easily. It is like what the Zohar says about human nature, we want and the giver gets pleasure by giving what we want. We are creatures of need; everything around us is because we wanted too much. The PETRONAS towers were built because we wanted something big in life to brag about. The Aston Martin was build because we need, we could have been happy with just a scooter but now we have to have something that is the price of a real estate just with wheels. Our desires are the only driving force in everything we do. Funny how we want everything we already have. Human nature, it is pathetic. I also have wants and needs. My biggest want and need is being able to put down the Prozac’s and actually have a smile on my face for 3 more minutes without complaining about it.
