Why do champions have to be pureblooded?
Why can't a dog show winner have impure blood?

If an individual dog has the desired characteristics (breed standards) of a particular breed, who gives a fat rat's ass if they're not pureblooded?

Ah, I hear you now-But they'll have mutt puppies!

So? Pups not sharing the traits are good companion animals. Pups with the traits are potential future champions.

We see the faults of inbreeding-isn't this a solution? Let Nature take her course and restore our dogs' vigor. Let natural selection return to being the source of those traits we find desirable, instead of continuing to validate mankind's ignorant and disastrous tinkering.

Let's start an anti-AKC, the American Mutt Club, where ribbons will be awarded to those animals typifying the ideal breed traits. It's time the industry was shaken up a bit anyway, riddled and ridden as it is by politics and humans judging humans, instead of people admiring animals. Changing the accepted social attitude would also reduce the abhorrent practices of our sordid puppy mills where substandard animals are produced based solely on appearances.

Snobbery is ever a lesser trait. Let's throw open the gates of acceptance to all of our furry friends; let's begin awarding prizes to the friendliest, the kindest, the most remarkable in aspects other than physical perfection. After all, my fellow dog lovers, is it your dog's lustrous coat, firm muscles, or shining white teeth that you love best, or the soul shining behind the eyes, the questing paw, the chin propped on your knee? All dogs' noses are cold, after all.

Do you agree or disagree with the opinions expressed in "All Dogs' Noses are Cold"?
YES! My pound puppy could win Westminster!
You make some good points; I may discuss them with others.
But I paid good money for my dog, and he's great!
I think the author of this essay should be caught and shot!
      Huh? What now?
