Step by step, going through a shocking time of life
Taking You Home

Happy was I for better you'll be
After minor surgery
You are coming home with me
To care for you the way I do
Prepared the house and your agenda
For a speedy recovery

The shock, the shock this can not be
You went ahead and died on me
This disbelief this couldn't be
Someone's playing a joke on me

As if in a dream I forged ahead
Not accepting you are dead
But reality kept creeping in on me
Gatherings to comfort each other
Helped to keep my sanity

Alone is when the pain hits hard
It's the simple things
That brings it home to me
The tube of toothpaste we once shared
Still standing there
To use it up was despair,
Reminded me you weren't here
Shopping I couldn't do
To ignore the items meant for you

In bed at night all alone
What happened here, I was taking you home?
I feel you here; you're still with me
You ease my thoughts, you comfort my sleep
I dream of you and it seems real
Things have happened I dare not explain
But now I believe in another plain

Autopsy performed, deed is done
Ashes are ready
Now, I'm taking you home with me
