an observation of my grandfather right after my grandmother died and how i felt
Real love, what is it? Sitting here watching my grandfather weep, I look back at what I know of his life. He was married to my grandmother for 57 years, had five children, and now has many grandchildren and even a great grandchild. His life has had a lot of wonderful things, and also some bad. For the past ten years he has cared for my grandmother daily, after her stroke. Every morning he gt up early to get breakfast ready and get her pills for her. He stayed home so she wouldn't be alone. Never left her side if she wanted him there. He was there at lunch for her again, then at dinner. No matter what he wanted, if she needed him, he was there for her. That is real love; I know it was not always pleasant or good feeling. But he never left her side. Everyone should take a lesson from them.
Now, getting ready to lay her to rest for the last time, I look at my grandfather in a new light. My heart aches for him, to watch a man I admire and love be so heart broken, makes my heart break for him. And yet, at the same time, he laughs and plays with his grandchildren. Letting us be, what and who we are.
I pray that God will give him the strength and courage to get through this. That he will alleviate the pain of this terrible loss, and let him only remember her before this happened, before the dementia, and the past three months of pain. May God take my grandmother's soul to a good place, to wait for him, so they may spend the rest of eternity walking hand in hand together in God's light. I also pray that the rest of my family, especially my mother and her siblings, that they will be strong and celebrate her life, not mourn her death. Remember all the good things in their life with her, and forgive the errors of my grandmother for she was only human. And lastly, I pray that they understand that God is in control and has his reasons for this, though we may not know, or understand.
