poem about what it means to me to be an adult
Uncertainties at every turn,
don’t know which way to look.
You smile at me, perhaps unknowingly
and my insides begin to burn.
I tremble at your touch, and you are gone.

A voice from my past calls to me, disconcertingly.
I’m confused, don’t know which way,
in both directions are shadowy movements.
I can’t really see.

I wish I had words, I’d scream.
But I’m lost, I’ve nothing,
can’t make out truth, when no details can be seen.
So confused, so wretchedly confused.
I wish I had words,
I would scream.

Will my thoughts ever provide any light?
Or when my life is extinguished, will I have left the world
nothing but darkness?
