We all get older...
by hotcockle

..Tonight..

..I recognized his smiling face from the good old days,
he was much older than me, still looking fit but showing many greys.

.. At the bar he sat ,the same spot I left him thirty years before,
when finished my trade, I left home, the whole world to explore.

..A wink to the barmaid as I ordered a round of beers,
she slid the drink along the bar, instinctively he said "Cheers".

..He looked at me with a curious look, the cogs tick over trying to remember,
the grin spread quickly across his face says," Xmas party 1980,last week in December."

..Shaking hands, and slapping backs restored our life long friendship,
he was my mentor, my guiding light, his progeny he'd boast 'that wouldn't leave his hip'.

.."How they hangin' you old coot, I thought you were long time dead"

.."Take it easy ya cheeky mongrel I still can throw the leg,
once a year the misses lets me crawl into her bed."

..Feeling sorry yet impressed for him that the old codger could still do the job,
in days gone by his pick up lines the ladies virtues he would rob.

.." Why the grin... if once a year, is the only root you've got in sight,
this makes no sense to me, it doesn't seem quite right?"

.."Don't worry mate I'm all grins that's right, after waiting all year

..Tonights the Night!"
