Grandma laughing
Grandma just couldn’t help but laugh. It was a beautiful, blue sky, warm summer day. One of those where all you want to do is go outside and soak up the sun’s rays. That day, grandma was sitting on the bench, watching the squirrels play in the trees. Every now and then, a bird or a rabbit would join in on the fun. Who would have expected something out of the ordinary to happen.
Three young girls were skipping down the path and chatting to each other. From the other direction, a young couple was holding hands and talking to each other. They weren’t paying much attention to anything around them. They really seemed to love each other.
That’s when it happened. Out of behind one of the trees a water balloon came flying. It was aimed at the feet of the girls skipping. It hit the pathway just in front of them and splattered them all. The girls screamed a little with fright and a little with glee. They didn’t know where it came from, but it was fun to be in a game that started.
Grandma had two buckets sitting behind her bench. They were full of water balloons. She pulled them out for the girls to play. They were excited. Each one grabbed a couple of balloons and started looking for me. One spotted me and threw her balloon. The other two joined in.
The couple that was walking toward us were still so much into each other, they really didn’t notice the balloon fight and the man walked right into a flying balloon. His jaw fell open. He was starting to get angry when the girl went over to the bucket and threw a balloon at him. He started laughing.
Grandma just sat back and laughed as she watched the water balloon fight. She had so much fun and so did I.
