I labeled this prose because it has more of a prose or narrative flavor to it.

The Rail Fence

It's just an old rail fence
along the side of a country road.
Grayish in color and weathered
from the wind, the snow, and the rain.
As I took my afternoon walk,
I wondered, how long it had stood,
against the elements and time;
and how often it had been repaired.
Originally, it was built to keep the cows in
but now is a reminder and a sign post;
letting all those who see it and pass,
also realize, nothing lasts forever.
Though the fence seems so ancient,
it still holds an inner peace and beauty;
much like we do as time catches up to us.
The weathered shell ages and turns inward on itself;
and the fence and I are the same.
