Loss of a pet that was treasured as a daughter
As one who lost so much, I should have cared for you
with all the love and attention that you were due

Almost like a child
So innocent and sweet
For twelve years I was your mother
and you were my four-legged daughter
And in one day
that was all gone.

Separated.
I feel like I betrayed
You.
I betrayed myself too.
I should have never left that day
Now I have to pay
Searching each day
for my gray babe

They don't understand
They don't comprehend
Your importance
Your signifcance
My dependence.

I was nineteen when I gave your human sisters away
My justification-- a better life lay
Ahead
For them
Then
I found you
And instead of two
I now had one
And a chance had come
To do the right thing.

I was mistaken
You were taken
And now we are both alone...
Again.

I'm sorry.
