A sonnet describing the horrors and futility of civil wars.
The deeply burning hatred bred in war
Is seared by rage that validates our sin.
The fiery battles keep circling the core
That ignites in the ashes of the fallen.
The embers glow in minds too young
From generations scorching the land;
Choking on grief of heroes unsung,
Their tears are swallowed by the sand.
What’s right is pinched out by the black
That blankets the hearts of misguided.
In peace they would find what they lack
But for some the only way is divided.
For shame the suffering in children’s eyes
When hatred wins- compassion dies.
