Amerigo Vespucci was born in Florence, Italy on March 9th, 1454. In 1497, he was given permission to sail to America by King Ferdinand of Spain. On April 10, 1497, he set out. Exactly next month, he reached the mainland of Guiana. October 15, of 1498, Amerigo returned to Cadiz, Spain. In 1499, on the 16th of May, Amerigo took a second voyage with Alonzo de Ojeda. They set sail for Cape Verde, they crossed the equator and explored the coast of Guiana and Brazil.

In September 1500, they returned to Spain. The next year on the 14th of May, Amerigo, took a third voyage setting sail for Cape Verde again. In 1502, September 7, they returned to Europe. June 10, 1503, Amerigo set sail with Gonzal Coelho, on his fourth voyage to South America. June 18, 1504, Vespucci returned to Lisbon, Portugal. In 1505, he married Maria Cerezo. From 1505 - 1507, Amerigo made a fifth and sixth voyage with Juan de la Cosa. Vespucci died on February 22, 1512.
