Fantasy dream poetry
I saw Lincoln crying, last night, in deepest slumber
My heart ached for him, his tears, so many in number
And although he seemed so distant, I asked him anyway
Mr. President, please tell me, what pains you so today?
His wails and moans were haunting, so very far reaching
He simply didn't seem to notice me in front of him beseeching

As my dream continued on, I soon faced another crying
Feathered crown, lying down, I sensed that he was dying
I then tried to comfort him and to warm him by the fire
He turned and looked right through me in magnificent attire
With tears of sadness flowing from his tired, haggard eyes
I sensed he was aware, he knew that this was his demise

Disturbed, I kept on moving, while hoping upon hope
I'd witness no more great men hanging from their rope
When suddenly, it couldn't be...Mr. King adrift in tears
I saw the great man weeping still, after all these years
Not knowing yet the meaning of my journey in the night
I continued stumbling onward, moving toward a shining light

The lady was magnificent, she shone with beauty bright
I didn't recognize her and she was haughty and contrite
Her jewels so dazzling, blinding me, now I was confused
Why was she not crying? I was frightened and bemused
Unlike the men, she noticed me, and I asked her who she was
Her answer came immediately, with little or no pause

My name is America, I am the Queen of all the Earth
I control commerce, war, and everything with worth
America? How could this be? I needed revelation...
How could this grand lady be America, my nation?
As quickly as the thought came, she started to confide
The story of our last days, and swore her hands were tied

She instructed me to read Revelations, the chapter of eighteen
I curtsied and I assured her, this I will surely do, my Queen...
Haunted, sweating and perplexed, I jolted upright in the bed
And while trying to return to sleep, her words kept reeling in my head
So I pulled out my Bible, and turning to the very back
I read what she had asked me to---foretelling of attack

Revelations, chapter of eighteen, has already come to pass
On 911, with such damage done, she said would not be the last
Suddenly, it dawned on me that prophecy would never be undone
We stumble blindly up and down a path so many more have run---
Even Christ in great redeeming glory, yes He, who bravely gave it all
Now stood in His appointed place to witness our downfall...
