What's more important than wisdom? Well, nothing really if we're talking about abstracts. I'm sure there are physical things that would take precedence if a person had to choose between one and the other. Food, for example, would likely be deemed more important to someone who is without. Water, too. In fact, count all the basics of survival such as shelter and fire more important than wisdom. And oxygen, too; there's no point in having more knowledge if you're just going to suffocate. Oh, and money. You need that to pay for food. Okay, so wisdom really doesn't matter that much. Why waste your time trying to divine the meaning of life when that life is dangerously close to being ended by starvation or hypothermia? However, those of us with the good fortune to own and operate computers with Internet connections probably aren't flatlining yet, so why not waste some of the precious time we could be using to talk to friends, build a house, or earn some needed cash, and try to learn a little something from the experience of our friends? Well, specifically my friends, since the likelihood that any of you readers have even been in the same state as any of these people is very slim. Even if you don't learn anything, and even if you don't laugh, just remember this: this time could have been spent smoking crack. |
