This poem is about obstacles that often appear in love.
Across the Lake

By Monika L. Brown

Across the lake
I see you there,
And without hesitation,
I begin to stare.
Upon me now,
You fix your gaze,
And somewhere within,
I feel a desperate fire blaze.
It’s there I know,
For us to share,
And you too, are engulfed.
The pain is very
Difficult to bear.
No hatred, nor disgust
Exists in our hearts.
Then what is it now,
That comes between us?
That is it!
I know what it is
That forces connected
Hearts to quit,
It is the lake;
Beautiful, serene.
How can it possibly
Cause hearts to break?
Across the lake,
Love is fair,
And I wonder to myself,
How can I get there?
