A poem about survival in the wilderness; a microcosm of society in which there is no love.
A pack of wild, hungry wolves,
Scavenging the mountainous wilderness
For an unwitting doe or buck,
The vegetarian deer grazing on grasses and bushes,
Unable to flee to safety along with their pack.
The ruthless carnivores,
High in the hills and rocky slopes,
Charging their innocent prey
For their own survival,
Violently killing and then eating
Their latest, helpless victims…
An extremely untame and vicious cycle of plunder,
Obtaining food and nourishment at the expense
Of another life;
Only the strong and the quick survive,
In groups large enough to hide in,
Headed by staunch and steady leaders…
Fierce but appropriate confrontations
Of a physical but necessary form,
Symbolic, yet common,
A microcosm of a greedy and deadly society
In which love is the rarest form of truth…
